El Casco Staplers #0113

The collector: Vicente Zorrilla Palau, Valencia, Spain.

The collection: Vicente has numerous collections, many of which can be seen on his Flickr page. Shown here is just one of them - his collection of El Casco staplers.

The story behind the collection...

I am not a collector in the sense of "seeking" a particular object to complete or add to a collection. For 25 years I have gone every Sunday to Valencia fleamarket, but I am not looking for anything in particular. I am interested in the design, colour and usefulness of objects that I find at a price I can afford.

William de Morgan Tiles #0112

The collector: Rob, Coventry, UK.

The collection: Tiles by William de Morgan

The story behind the collection...

I'm a doctor but a ceramic collector and was brought up, at least for a while, in Stoke on Trent. I worked in some potbanks while I was a student, and spent my pocket money on old pots and stamps. The stamps were sold some time ago to buy more pots.

Miniature Chairs #0111

The collector: Tom Giannini, Architect, London (UK)

The collection: Miniature Chairs

The story behind the collection...

Years ago (around 1996) I visited an old school friend in LA who had an amazing Tonka truck collection. I thought to myself then that it would be fun to have a collection of my own and in the back of mind I was thinking of the Vitra miniatures. Vitra had only started the Miniatures Collection four years earlier and I thought that might make for a good collection. It’s fun to have a miniature of something that I have owned or do own. The miniature chairs really strike a cord with me.

The collection: Bricks

The story behind the collection...

The earliest influence must be that as a young boy I played with my sisters on the site of an old brickworks, building 'houses' from the stacked up bricks, exploring the clay processing machinery and kilns.

The story behind the collection...

My father, an architect bought a Hans Gugelot & Dieter Rams Braun SK 5 in the early '60s. It was always in the house. I suppose now that it was the unconscious origin of my Braun collection.

Airline Junior Wings #0108

cameron_flemingThe collector: Cameron Fleming, copywriter at Ogilvy & Mather, New York, NY, US.

The collection: Airline Junior Wings

The story behind the collection...

I’ve always been fascinated by airlines. In fact, one of my earliest memories is of the turtle painted on the back of a Cayman Airways 737. When I was a kid, I followed the airlines the way most kids follow sports teams. I think this early interest in airline brands is one of the reasons I went into advertising.
