Matchbooks #0107

The collector: Krista Charles, art stylist, Albuquerque, NM, US.

The collection: Matchbooks.

The story behind the collection...

For each matchbook I find where the location of the business would be in Google Maps and on the inside cover of the matchbook I make a pencil sketch of whatever is now shown at this location. On average each drawing takes about two hours to complete, so I typically spend more time at these digital locations than I might if I traveled there in person.

Soviet Posters #0106

The collector: Dante, US.

The collection: Soviet Posters.

The story behind the collection...

As a child I was always collecting something. I collected anything from the fad collectables of Pogs and Crazy BOnes to old bottles and postage stamps. I found my first 'wild' bottle in a marsh along the Delaware River near my old home in Bristol, Pennsylvania with my father. The Designs of André Ricard #0103

The collector: Alejandro Mena, Graphic Designer, Madrid, Spain.

The collection: The designs of André Ricard.

The story behind the collection...

Anyone who was born in Spain in the 1960s has grown up surrounded by the designs of André Ricard. I was one of them. I recall treasuring a green edge rounded bottle of Agua Lavanda Puig eau de cologne at age 7 (unfortunately lost - did I kept it too well or did I just end up throwing it away?). I remember keeping tiny figurine toys in the equally edge-rounded brown and orange box of Cola Cao Vit as well as playing with a wood and metal smoking set laying unused on my mother’s coffee table, and in my early twenties I kept a straight-lined toothbrush because I love the design so much and bought a more normal one to use. I had no clue who André Ricard was and that those objects had been designed by him.
